General Discussion / The biggest mistakes I ever made in MF are...?
« on: March 12, 2018, 02:42:09 PM »
Half asleep this morning, I accidentally disbanded (instead of set as militia) 330 warriors, most of them heavy cavalry.

Made me wonder what other very stupid mistakes people have made?  Anyone?

Awesome.  Thanks everyone

As it stands, unless they are explicitly killed by a first one, the artifact returns to the creating user right now on the holder's death.

Just to make sure I understand, the "user" is the player account and not the orig. creator of the item as it is listed in a characters history?

The creating character is dead and the item holder is blighted.  My other character wants the has to go and capture the blighted character.  Before I allow that to happen, I want to make sure that accidentally killing the character in the battle that has to take place to capture her, will not force the artifact to be lost because the game can not find its creator.

So if user means my account, cool! If you intended to say creator... not as cool.

As I understand it, if the owner of an artifact dies, the artifact will return to its creator.  What if the creator is dead?  Where will the artifact go?

If the answer is "its lost", then will the player's account be able to create / recreate the artifact?... why?

General Discussion / Re: The Value of Experienced Soldiers

They ARE weaker realms for a reason.  Being new or weak, they have to get strong with armies or politics or they do not cause trouble and draw negative attention to themselves.  Sort of a big part of the game.  I mean if I come at you with 1000 heavy cavalry, does it really matter that 50 of them have experience over 100?

If that argument is deemed valid... two things come to mind.

1. When they reach X number of experience, can a tally be ran that shows how well they did in battle?  Did they always run, were they ruthless killers, half and half?  Let that be the factor that says if they get a perk or not.  I dont know that this information is stored?

2. What is the life expectancy of a mortal?  Is there one or is it just an idea that they are not mortals because they can die in combat?  Do they die with starvation or just move away?  Birth rates?  Point being that a soldier could be given an expiration date.

Big fan of any ideas that builds a stronger tie between player and soldiers.

Would it be easier to add a building to train veterans?  So you can train your experienced troops into a higher level of warrior?  Training could increase power, defense, and the Sir Robbin school of running away.  Any soldier could be trained in this but its ability would be scaled based on experience?

Anyone seen Bear's Axe?  I am curious... if someone has it, they should be loud about it so it makes others want it back...

Heh. Greetings from the d'Serrai.

I have been reading through the forums every now and then - and yes, its good to see M&F still ticking. I might return some day...and yes, its surprisingly good to see some remnants still there...even though Tan and his father both were killed while sleeping. Lots of history lost  :(

I had a lot of fun playing against, alongside and especially jointly with your characters - salutations from the past!

I have been gathering information/messages and sending them to children so that history is not lost... although it gets twisted a bit each time due to missing some here or there or added bits from memory.  I like it because it adds to the story telling effect of handing down history.

Need to get it all on the wiki.

To a point.  If you get beaten badly in a battle tho... they are all going to die anyway.

I had a unit of 20 special plate/warhorse/broadsword warriors with 80+ exp.  Added them to a couple hundred other warriors but was caught in a pitched battle of about 2/1... beaten but then then of course if you can not get away fast enough, you go through round and round of battles... and every one of them will die.  Or if you are lucky, you get a few left wounded and they die while running around trying to avoid more battles.

Are we supposed to be reporting these?  Or are we letting them remain?

Ha!  Those troops lasted a long long time too.  Until I was caught up in a tropical vacation with no way to log in, decimated and lost.

Ashley is still a single girl you know... looking for a suitor that can best her in battle.

Hmm... I always liked the ones held in the game using game mechanics.

Chance for death...or glory.

But another fun event could be a fox hunt.  Name a character Fox, but gold on him and 50 soldiers.  First person to catch / kill him wins the gold.

General Discussion / Re: New Fealty Offers please

It is really annoying that we can not put up knight offers from a distance.  That is a stumbling block for game flow to get players in.  Would be really nice to have that block removed so that we can place knight offers at any time.

1) Are Player Character the only First Ones?
2) Are bandits human or First Ones, or a mix I suppose
3) Are First Ones and Humans genetically related and are viable offspring possible from a coupling between the two races?
4) Do the First exert a magical or physic control over Humans.

This has been my opinion based on my own game play, other peoples writings, and what I have read on here over the years (which could have been misread).

1.  No.  I believe NPC's have a place in our story telling.  From our back stories to current RP, we need the freedom to create our story.

2. I say a mix... If bandits are human, they must be the most powerful humans alive.  Maybe that is why they have the courage to stand up to First Ones?  They have killed multiple rulers of Rathgar for example.  That takes some serious balls for a First One much less a human.

Some First Ones are exiled (for example, the nithing of Rathgar) for some they could rely on family and friends for support around the world but others could easily become bandits.  Some bandits must be First Ones or else capture (if it still occurs) by bandits would allow a F1 the freedom to escape at ease without being bound by the magic?

3. I don't think so... If I remember correctly from the guided start, this was nixed by GM.  A player wanted to be a human and the whole can of worms was opened up resulting in a no go.  From a mechanic standpoint, we can not create human characters... so no strong offspring are possible, however with RP someone could create a situation that has them.

4. I don't think so... If we did, First Ones would not need to use food to control a population remaining in place.  The idea that the population could fluctuate based on resources (including protection which increases production) leads me to believe they have free will.  Recalling soldiers could be another aspect of free will, although it could be a battle of minds between two First Ones also.  But if they could control the humans that way, we would not need shrines to make them happy.  So I think we manipulate the population just like the elite manipulate us in the real world.
