What makes buildings break down?
« on: May 01, 2017, 03:01:06 AM »
Just had a stone wall in one of my settlements collapse and I can't really figure out why. I still had more than the minimum population threshold, so that doesn't seem like it. What governs building collapse?

Thanks!

How do you mean? As in it disappeared entirely (0%)? Or it went to 99%?

Thats because you had no builders constructing it so it slowly crumbled away.

It would have needed to already be falling apart. When someone damages a building through looting or it starts to fall apart due to population, it is basically put back onto the "building" list but with zero workers. For some buildings like inns that automatically build when population is sufficient, the game may put workers onto the task, otherwise it is up to you to assign workers or the building will continue to take damage until it is gone. For some reason we get constant messages about watch towers that are suffering from this, but not buildings within our settlements.

Right so how did it get built if there were no builders.

Couple of ways. The building might have been in progress when the workers were removed, which will result in a break down. The building may have been abandoned, which currently uses the same logic so after a while you get the same message. The building might have been damaged through looting. Finally the building could have automatically been abandoned because the population of the settlement dropped too low.

I lost a heavy armorer when a friendly came for a visit-and-afk'd. Too many mouths to feed and a week of starvation later...there goes stockpiled plate (that I couldn't train yet). I think buildings are abandoned when you don't have enough peasants (not thralls) to fill it as well, but I'm not sure which was the case for my experience.
